Another Super Bowl Running Back: Rashard Mendenhall Re-appreciation Day

Photo

As we say goodbye to another #5, making his way into the NFL draft, with a future of certain greatness, I would like to take some time out today to recognize the accomplishments of the original too cool for school running back, Rashard Mendenhall, who will be taking his team to the Super Bowl in two weeks.

Rashard could be the second straight Illini running back to lead his team to a ring, following Pierre Thomas' championship win with the New Orleans Saints last year. Rashard has become a star in the last few years after being drafted in the first round by the Pittsburgh, and was the key to the Steelers' AFC championship win over the New York Jets.

But before he was doing it in the NFL, Rashard was burning defenders in Memorial Stadium, and being a huge reason why the Illini made it to the 2008 Rose Bowl. So today we set aside some time to appreciate the all to brief Mendenhall Renaissance in Champaign, Illinois.

Lets start with some highlights shall we?

Or perhaps you would prefer this video, the highlight reel created by Rivals just before 'Shard was drafted.

Oh we miss you buddy. Good luck in the Super Bowl, I know I will be rooting for you.

I'm kinda torn on this one.

Love me some Rashard Mendenhall, but 4 out of the 7 members of this household? Packers fans. Hey, my bro-in-law is from Wisconsin, so I can’t fault it. Plus, when my Broncos won SB XXXII, I kinda rubbed it in their faces. So maybe I should repay it somehow.

St. Louis Game Time . . . I need another beer.

And I can also write things in 140 characters or fewer.
