Selection Show and Acid Reflux Openthread
This is exactly where we didn't want to be on Sunday March 14th. Without control over our post season destiny and rooting for chalk in the conference tournaments.
We know the resume and we know who might end up jumping us. Use this to discuss and react as the minutes wind down toward the Illini's fate next week.
It is going to be close, but I don't have a great feeling.... come on Ohio State, crush the Gophers.

Lundardi officially has Illinois
BACK IN!!! regardless of the outcome of the minnesota and ohio state game. Finally some good news.
Yes!
I think Illinois has to be in. Too many good wins, compared to those left. Miss St, Cal, even Utah St, despite their 27 wins, all have weaker resumes. I think Illinois is in, but that does not make me any less nervous.

I have to thank the Orange Kush
for showing up in droves yesterday and friday. It was clear which school had the best student presence.
(not Ohio State)

gosh i hope so...
that minnesota game still burns me, i think if we won that game we’d be in for sure
i also think SOS and RPI need to be reworked after this year. It seems like if you play teams 200+ on the RPI it drags the rating down far more than those who play teams from 150-200, when in reality there isn’t that much of a difference between those teams
I mean Illinois played 14 games against the RPI top 50
the other bubble teams aren’t that close
Minnesota – 12
Florida – 11
Cal – 7
Miss St – 6
Utah St – 3
How the heck is Cal’s schedule so much stronger than the Illini’s, they’ve played just 13 teams inside the RPI top 100 and the Illini have played 14 inside the Top 50
I just don’t get it. After say RPI of 125, all those teams should be considered equally terrible (when evaluating tourney teams)

The RPI is jacked for just that reason
they only look at games against top 100 and top 150 for that reason, not the actual RPI of the team.
Cal played an ass load of teams with middle to low RPIs while Illinois played a ton of high RPI (especially down the stretch) but avoided the sub 200s.
It needs to be tweaked because of exploits like this.

is that really the criteria?
if so that should help us quite a bit

From what I have been told, yes
they are trying to reward teams that challenge themselves. it doesn’t hurt that our top 50 wins are high top 50 wins either.
the MSU, and the wisconsin wins are top 15 (rankings) and vanderbilt is currently #20

If I gotta watch some schlub like Mississippi State get in and watch the Illini lose a home game in the NIT due to Cirque du Soleil . . .
I might burn something.
The Throwdown Lowdown, only on The Bluenote Zone . . . I punch you hard.
St. Louis Game Time . . . I need another beer.
yeah, they have crap wins
Illini challenged themselves much more out of conference, and were actually able to win some games against the top teams in their conference

Bruce says
they say you have to play good teams, and i think if you lose you have to get some credit
So do you guys think Iowa will get a #2 or a #3?
Before you respond, let me remind you: Brian Cook called me smug, which makes me the Obama of smugness. I'm basically Smugbama.
Good luck
on getting in ! The MN loss (in a few min) muddies the tournament waters for them- but I think both teams go to the dance.
haha you know it
where are you going to watch it? is anyone going to give you free food?

Bart: Wow. How many home runs you gonna hit with that thing?
Homer: Let's see... We play thirty games. Ten at-bats a game. Mm...three thousand.
potential second round match up, according to Lunardi
Illinois and Tennessee. Bruce Pearl….Bruce Weber…again
Hopefully,
a beneficient God can make that happen.

Given the conference strengths, they can't possibly choose 2 SEC bubble teams over us can they?
Can they??
i wouldnt think so
also, Minnesota getting blown out by a team we took to 2 OT hopefully moves us ahead. no promises though

If they're not in that bracket, I don't think its time to lose our shit yet
That would be after the last bracket is announced.

It's the rules like that
that make me think the committee has no chance to react to the Big Ten tourney championship appropriately given the timeing.
clemson-mizzou game might be in the 90's
talk about up-tempo

So many losses that were the difference
I think if we won any single one game we lost this season, and we would have made it in.
Purdue really fucked us over
getting waxed yesterday.

houston stealing a bid
and new mexico state.
but the big one was florida. that blows and i disagree with it most of all
they didn't rack up a bunch of bad losses
just one
also beat TEN, FSU

i still believe
the h2h loss with minnesota cost us
he talked about unbalanced conference schedules (may have been referring to va tech), but MINN played Michigan once more than we did and we got WISCO and extra time
it would seem we played a tougher conference sched and finished ahead of them
i think a h2h win over them and we’d be in

Let's all go to Utah State and . . . uhh, burn some salt flats down.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say their loss in their conference title game, paired with the Illini’s ineptitude down the stretch, lost us the bid.
Seriously . . . their best player is a dude named Quayle. Argh.
The Throwdown Lowdown, only on The Bluenote Zone . . . I punch you hard.
St. Louis Game Time . . . I need another beer.
And I probably should've just posted this under the Genesis video.
Whatever.
