As if any one in Iowa cared, Illini roll Hawkeyes 59-43
Just some quick thoughts about to tonight's game before the full write up tomorrow
- The benching of Demetri McCamey and D.J. Richardson did not seem to phase them, as DJ led the game with 17 points and added 9 of his own with 7 assists.
- Coming into the night DMAC was leading the league in assists, and it caught everyone by surprise that he was benched tonight. DMAC says "its a team game, they deserved the start."
- Bill Cole (effort, pow) had a pretty good game in his first ever start 4 points, 4 boards, 2 blocks and 2 steals, he also led the world in effort.
- Iowa was as bad a team as I have ever seen for some very long stretches tonight, there was a very real possibility toward the end of the first half that they would not break into double digits by half time, and only ended up with 15. Seriously, ouch.
- There is no way that John Lickliter is 5'11''
- The Illini are now in good shape to win their next two games against Indiana and Penn State, hopefully taking some of the pressure off of the team about making the dance.

Why not?
He decides to show up ready to play.

i didn't see the start of the game, can someone confirm that the starting lineup was:
Tisdale – C
Davis – PF
Cole – SF / G
Paul SG
Jordan – PG
I can see giving Cole a nod to start to reward him for energy, but wouldn’t that energy be better served coming off the bench? And not starting DMac? Huh? And why wouldn’t Keller get the start after that ridiculous game over the weekend? The few times I’ve seen lineups w/ Cole and Jordan on the floor at the same time it has been ugly ugly offense.
You may recall that against Gonzaga . . .
we trailed by 21 at one point in the first half. For Bruce Weber, that WILL NOT cut it. So he emphasized defense, which is something D-Mac didn’t play much of in Chicago and DJ rarely plays any of at any time. So they came off the bench. I’m guessing D-Mac won’t come off the bench much this year, but I’m sure it was message sent, message received.
As for Keller . . . you can’t expect that type of performance every time out. If we do, we’re in for a long Big Ten slate.
Anyway, that starting lineup WAS indeed the starting lineup . . . and I dunno, a 17-3 run is a pretty good way to start a game, no matter if your opponent really can’t play basketball.

If John Lickliter is 5'11"
then I’m the fucking Pope. Dude’s shorter than one of those outdoor cellar doors.

wonderful that they won and played so well, but i’m hesitant to lavish praise on a lineup for a great win over Iowa.
good points on DMac. as for Keller, he averaged 5.9 ppg in just 12.3 mpg, this year he’s up to 7.1 ppg on 15.3 mpg, and he’s been shooting around 50% from the floor. as a senior, i think he deserves more minutes based on his performance. maybe there are some things going on with him that i’m not privy too, but c’mon man!
