The Linking Illini is hopping mad
Best case-worst case: Illinois - Big Ten - ESPN
I do so enjoy reading Mr. Rittenberg's columns. In best case/worst case he examines the two extremes that this season could take, and it is a pretty fair assessment 10-2 and 5-7. I have a different best case scenario of course, the Illini go undefeated and crush an SEC team in the MNC, elsewhere a sink hole consumes Kinnick Stadium whole. As for worst case, in the first play from scrimmage Juice's ACLs explode as he throws down field to Benn, who crashes into Fayson on a crossing route gone wrong. The pass is intercepted and both Fayson and Benn suffer season ending knee injuries of their own. Elsewhere Florida wins another MNC.
Meyer’s culture shock - Gator Sports
This article was brought to my attention by an emailer. The article really confuses me to a point where it upset me somewhat. If you don't feel like reading the article (I don't blame you, it is terrible) the basic summary is Zook treated the freshmen like rookies on a pro team and they were miserable and the team was bad. In comes Urban on his white horse to save the day from the scourge of Ron Zook. The following is my immediate response to the article as I wrote it to the emailer. You would think that after the massive contract he has signed, winning two national championships, signing top 3 recruiting classes and all the endless media lap dogging, that Meyer would not need to enhance his own ego by crapping on his predecessor. The media in Florida, and the fan base of the Gators in general confuses me to no end on this. Zook only coached the Gators for 3 seasons, but there was a story earlier this summer blaming Zook for all of the Florida players who have run afoul of the law these last few off seasons, going into the fifth season of Zook not being coach in Gainesville. Ron Zook cant hurt the Gators any more. Urban Meyer is a much better coach than Zook, hell he is head and shoulders above Spurrier in his prime. What is there to gain by looking backward and taking shots like this? (I would also of course point out that Zook was the only one in the entire Big Ten to vote the Gators into the '06 MNC game, and not Michigan like the rest of the conference. It seems to me that as bitterness goes, Meyer is holding onto alot more than Zook.

It's quite obvious . . .
that we don’t understand the college football fervor in the ESS EEE SEEE!!!!!
That’s my only explanation for that abortion of an article from a guy who claims to be a journalist rather than an athletic program’s hand-puppet.
We’re approaching ZOOOOOOOOOOK’s 5th season here. He’s cut loose MANY more than several players from the program (not to mention transfers), and we have not heard of anything like this happening at Illinois from those who have left the program.
Also, keep in mind that Zook spent three seasons as the head coach at Florida. It’s possible the firing CAUSED the rift between the upperclassmen and the freshmen, considering there was a palpable gap between Ron’s recruits and Urban’s recruits. You’d think that MIGHT be a factor here . . . BUT GOD NO, says Robbie . . . IT’S ZOOK’S FAULT! IT’S ALL ZOOK’S FUCKIN’ FAULT!
Garbage. Total, utter, stupid, bullshit, ESS EEE SEEEEEEE garbage.
Print it.
One day, David Backes and Albert Pujols will combine forces to become the most awesome piece of violent force known to man.
Good article..
I would also of course point out that Zook was the only one in the entire Big Ten to vote the Gators into the ’06 MNC game, and not Michigan like the rest of the conference
This was a very good point. I feel that Zook is a class act and we’re lucky to have him at Illinois. Although, this is certainly a make or break season for him— not that he’s on the hot seat. It just seems like this team has all the potential in the world and, if they don’t utilize it, another Illini team with similar potential would be 2-3 years down the road, maybe more if Zook can’t snag another stellar class.
Bear Down, Chicago Bears!
