Around SBN: Off Tackle Empire interviews Rich Rodriguez

Big Ten Media day continued coverage, long awaited Dantonio coverage!

Here is is the thing about Mark Dantonio, he is boring, much like his mentor Jim Tressel he can put me to sleep better than Ambien. So slipping in and out of consciousness during his time on the dais is i believe forgivable.

He mentions that "all going in the same direction" is key to the success of the Spartans, which is, I suppose nice.

When he references that the Spartans have raised expectations from time to time, he fails to reference John lulz Smith failing to live up to even the most modest of expectations.

Greg Jones is your preseason Defensive POY more than likely because there aren't any professional wrestlers to anoint to the position anymore.

A great quote "if you want to grow you have to experience some pain" which I imagine will be dealt out from Dantonio himself.

He finally addresses something concrete. The spartans are concretely not moving to the spread, despite have athletic QBs at their disposal. I think it would be a pretty major turn for MSU to go from pro style to spread when the team is expected to do so well in the conference. Why would you want to risk going all Rich Rod on your offense and possibly flushing your season down the toilet with expectations so high.

Finally the southern provocateur strikes again. Asks the reporter "When you walked off the field after the bowl game with Georgia, did you feel like you were walking off the field with a team from an inferior league to the SEC?"

Dantonio dismisses the concept entirely, and completely doesn't care for the whole SEC vs Big Ten argument. Good for him, if anyone is going to turn this formal media event into a message board chest thumping shouting match its going to be me.

Next. the neglected Kirk Ferentz speech.

Kirk I assume flew here, using his private jet staffed with gold dipped flight attendants.

What i really want to hear is more about Bettendorf product (Quad Cities, whoo!) Pat Angerer, who perhaps has the best name all present.

Almost as annoying as the southern provocateur is the guy who wants every coach to tell him what they think about Ohio State. Generally speaking they don't have much to say.

the provocateur continues to ask  why the SEC is head and shoulders above the Big Ten, he does this even to the coach that beat an SEC team, and the great vaunted Ol' ball coach in Spurrier. If you are trying to get someone to say that the SEC is the greatest conference evar yeaaaaaaahhhh!!!! I think you are barking up the wrong tree. "things get more exaggerated than are factual."

There is still plenty more to write about from today's events, I will be back later to wrap the whole thing up.

Toki, you are the man.

I would be snoring after about 30 seconds of this. (click the Jim Tressel link.)
