breaking news Illini a 5 seed, Seth Davis an idiot
The illini will face the WKU hilltoppers in Portland Oregon this Thursday.. more analysis later.
But it didnt take long for Seth Davis to call that WKU would upset the Illini, because we are playing without Chester,

Don't feel bad
I think there were two teams he didn’t like to upset a top seed.
Betcha he picks Duke to win it all.
One would certainly wonder about his partiality then.

Watching ESPN Bracketology right now...
I think they all picked WVU over the Illini.

At some point, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy
about the 5-12 upset every year. I will admit, we are without our glue and leader, but I think people are too quick to say WKU will beat us for the sake of trying to predict which team is the 5-12 upset this year.
I know WKU beat Louisville, but it was early in the season before they got it going. Minny beat Louisville too and we split with Minny 1-1. Louisville also lost to UNLV early on. A couple of the non-power teams scared me, but WKU wasn’t one of them. I think we will surprise a lot of people.
Illinois is vulnerable
But when they’re not shooting 30%, they’re very good. And when that many pundits agree on something, they’re usually wrong.
I actually defend the media more often than not...
… but I yelled a number of expletives at Seth Davis’ knee-jerk comment and then am simply amazed as to how it’s almost uniform amongst the “experts” that we’re going to lose in the first round. We definitely have to take WKU seriously, but I think that Arizona and Wisconsin are much more likely 12 over 5 upset teams.

It will be a shock to me . . .
if WKU beats Illinois. That will be the only shock to the media.
WKU is NOT what they were last year during their Sweet 16 run. They don’t have the same coach. They don’t have all of the same players. They likely DO have the same heart. But let’s look at things here . . .
They do not have ONE player over 6’9". Illinois has several of those, one of which is the starting center.
They do not have ANYONE who can body up with Dominique Keller. Expect him to be a beast in this game.
Apart from their point guard, the rest of their guards are swingmen. D-Mac can guard these people in his sleep . . . which he seemingly tried to do with several of his defensive assignments during the Big Ten season.
NO disrespect is meant to the WKU folks. But this is not 2003. Nor is it 2008.
This Is Not The 5-12 Upset You Are Looking For.
THAT, of course . . . lies in the East Region. Seriously . . . Wisconsin CAN’T beat Florida State? Whatever.

No kidding
According to Pomeroy’s stats, Wisconsin’s actually favored to win that game. I don’t know how Florida State got a 5 seed.
