Around SBN: Champions League Preview with Jimmy Conrad

Illini beat Western Michigan 88-53 behind blistering first half.

We all knew that the Illini were due for an off shooting game after the 60% shooting spree they went on earlier this week against Vanderbilt. And for  the first several minutes of todays game that was true, as the Illini went 0 for their first 9 shots. And then well, they went back to shooting the ball like not one else around right now. At the 14:48 mark the Illini made their first shot. Then all hell broke loose as they made 18 of 25 shots after that 0-9 start.

Here are some of the stats that led to the extremely one sided Illini win.

  • Dominique Keller went off for 15 points in the game, all of which were in the first half, including a stunning 3 for 3 from 3. (I like that)
  • Mike Davis has (yawns) another double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. I really wish he would show some effort out there don't you?
  • Lots of rebounds to be had the Illini all together brought down 48 rebounds to WMU's 40. Most of those were defensive (obviously) a fact that was helped by the fact that the Illini held WMU to only 24% shooting. Yikes
  • For the game the Illini had 48% shooting from the field, still impressive given the 0-9 start

So yeah, folks, the Illini are winning by just beating their opponents into submission with points now. It is a crazy world. I will have a more full reaction tomorrow.
