Illini gain in polls #20 in AP, #21 in Coaches.
At this point in the year, with so very few real tests to the quality to teams, its fairly easy to move up in the polls. Just roll over your cupcakes and hope someone in front of you loses. I'm not saying its fair or accurate but that seems to be the case for the Illini. (Thanks be to Oklahoma, Dayton, Cal and Georgia Tech) So anyway, on to the rankings.
Yes, we still have 6 teams from the Big Ten in the rankings, but based on Penn State's falling off the cliff into suck and and every player who ever wanted to play basketball at Northwestern tearing their ACL don't look for that number to go up at all as the season goes on. If perhaps you may suggest that Iowa or Indiana may have a shot, then this is the first time you have read anything about Big Ten basketball this season, welcome!
The ACC to its credit is still competitive with 5 teams in the top 25, and its looks like the Challenge will be the referendum on the strength of both conferences once again. But more on that later.

Slim chance of getting to 7
There is, after all, Wisconsin, who is always good when they aren’t supposed to be. But it would probably come at the expense of one of the other 15-22 range teams in the Big Ten.
PAC 10
The PAC 10 will probably sneak someone else into the top 25 eventually. Also, OU will fall out soon due to their relative youth and inexperience (read: lack of post presence and consistent perimeter shooting).

pur'doh beats tennessee
that’s a big win for the big 10! and I could see wisconsin slipping in there, they’ve shown some good things so far and you can nevver count Bo Ryan out.
That Vanderbilt game just got to looking slightly better on paper . . .
but is still dangerous.
RPI builder, baby!
