Rock Bottom:Illini Lose to Hoosiers 27 to 14.
I do not think it can get much worse than this for the Illini. The Illini completely imploded with penalties and turnovers, and allowed themselves to be beat by a team that was not even competitive last week to Virginia. The same team the Illini blew off the field last year after putting 55 points on the board.
There is no argument anymore, the Illini are the worst team in the Big Ten, and just lost to the team that many thought gave us our best chance not to finish 1-11 this season.
What is there to say. The Illini were careless with the ball, were careless with penalties, were terrible on the offensive line, were terrible in pass coverage for most of the game and just all around not very good. This team will not be making a bowl, and I am unconvinced it can win another game this year.
There is only so much I can write about this team. The problems that have been there all season have not been resolved, and what areas were a strength at the beginning of the season have slowly degraded. This team is in a spiral and it is past the point of "turning things around" as Zook might put it. This season is beyond salvage, and it is too depressing to think about the amount of talent that has gone to waste.
On a side note, Donsay Hardeman, who suffered a neck injury last season and had to have off season surgery was carted off the field on a back board and was taken to a local hospital. Everything I have heard so far is that it was completely precausionary and every test has come back negative for major neck injury. I personally hope that Donsay will end up being all right, because as much as fans like me like to complain and criticize we still realize that it is a game, and not worth getting really hurt over.

This is getting reminiscent of Zook's first year
when it seems like every week the B10 offensive player of the year was played against us. Back then we saw how bad Zook was without talent. And now we see how bad Zook is WITH talent. How we ever reached the Rose Bowl, I’ll never know
Again, a prior commitment saves me . . .
from watching this flaming shipwreck of a team.
I’m about as optimistic as anyone, and even I am finding it hard to look on the positive side about this team. It is just Godawful.
One day, David Backes and Albert Pujols will combine forces to become the most awesome piece of violent force known to man.
you know what makes this so painful?
Iowa, the team we beat so often for recruits in past years, is undefeated. God help us. Iowa
